Monterrey, the capital of the state of Nuevo Leon, has emerged as the congress and conventions leader in the north of the country due to its excellent infrastructure, variety of venues, strong economy, professional middle class, and the wide varietiy of tourist activities in the area.
There are approximately 11,800 guest rooms in more than 100 hotels strategically distributed around the city. Monterrey is one of the handful of places in Mexico that offers event space and accommodations for up to 10,000 people. Cintermex, Monterrey’s International Business Center with 27 halls, holds up to 2,300 people. Monterrey’s Convex Center can hold up to 5,000 individuals 3 banquet halls and a theatre, and the Monterrey Arena accomodates up to 17,600 individuals.
Monterrey’s 5-star hotels also have event space on their facilities. For example, the Sheraton Ambassador Monterrey has 229 rooms and suites and 11 event halls with space for up to 2,470 people. The Crowne Plaza Monterrey offers 403 rooms and suites and 13 meeting rooms for up to 1,640 people.
Monterrey’s International Airport receives 6.8 million passengers a year. A new terminal is expected to open in 2011. Currently, Monterrey received direct flights from 12 international cities including Houston, Miami, New York and Madrid.
