The state of Tamaulipas has 260 miles of coastline and beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, including Miramar, Playa Bagdad and La Carbonera. Bordering Texas, Tamaulipas has a number of important cities, including seaside destinations (and important port cities) like Tampico and Matamoros, and the business centers, Reynosa and Ciudad Victoria, the state’s capital.
Tamaulipas’ rich coasts and forests have been inhabited for more than 8,000 years. During the colonial period, the Spanish colonizers and Franciscan missionaries in the 16thcentury were drawn to the area´s abundant natural resources and strategic coastal location.
The state has a diversity of ecosystems, from dry, cactus-adorned inland areas, to beautiful beaches and the dramatic mountains and valleys of the Sierra Madre Oriental in the southeast. The El Cielo Biosphere Reserve is a perfect place to enjoy Tamaulipas´ cloud forest, offering camping, mountain biking, hiking, birding tours and excursions in this 356,989-acre park.
The Expo-Tampico is a great venue for events by the sea. The150,694 square-foot structure with 3 exposition areas and 18 convention areas with a capacity of 8,500 people. The Fiesta Inn Tampico is another venue with 124 guestrooms and suites, and a 1,916 square-foot event hall that can hold 180 people. The Hampton Inn by Hilton Ciudad Victoria has 105 guestrooms and 1,000 square feet of event space that can accommodate up to 60 guests.
