Government Tourism Officials Hold Summit

The 31st Annual Summit of State Tourism Secretaries (XXXI Reunión Nacional de Funcionarios Estatales de Turismo) opened in the state of Oaxaca on Tuesday. Federal Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) executive Gloria Guevara inaugurated the event. 

 

The primary focus of this year's event was to evaluate progress toward the goals of the country's National Tourism Accord, a series of initiatives announced in 2010, designed to increase Mexico's promience and competitiveness in the industry. The Accord consists of 10 strategic initiatives, and 101 specific actions to be carried out. Some of the items include investment in infrastructure,  advertising and public relations, and evaluating special programs such as Mundo Maya, Pueblos Mágicos (Magic Towns)  and Ciudades Patrimonio (Mexican cultural destinations. 

 

According to SECTUR, the country as a whole is 64% of the way toward fulfilling the accord's plan.
